The Step-by-Step Process of Getting Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are a common way to correct smile imperfections like chips, cracks, gaps, and minor misalignment issues. Though getting veneers is much quicker than using brackets, wires, or aligners to give your smile a more uniform look, there are still several steps to the process. Read on to learn more about the veneer process in Tampa so you have a better idea of what you can expect.

Step #1: Creating a Plan

Before you move forward with getting veneers, you and your dentist will work together to create a customized treatment plan. During this time, you can explain to them what your ideal smile looks like so they can explain the best way to achieve your goals. The more specific you are about what you want to get out of your veneers, the better. If possible, bring in photo examples of what you want your final results to look like. Your dentist will give you input regarding how possible those results will be, and they’ll recommend ways to compromise to achieve a gorgeous smile.

Step #2: Preparing the Teeth

Once you and your dentist have agreed on how to proceed with treatment, it’s time to start preparing your teeth for the veneers. If you have any existing oral health issues that need treatment, your dentist will correct this before proceeding. If not, they will go ahead and remove a small amount of enamel from the front surface of the teeth that will be receiving the veneers. This will allow them to fit snugly against your teeth so they blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

Step #3: Crafting at the Laboratory

After preparing your teeth, your dentist will make impressions of them to send to the dental lab that will be making your veneers. While you wait for your permanent veneers, your dentist will fit you with temporary ones to protect your teeth and so you can comfortably speak, chew, and smile.

Step #4: The Final Placement

Once your dentist has received your veneers back from the dental lab, they will have you return to the office to have them placed. The veneers will be attached to the front of your teeth using a mildly acidic solution to open up tiny pores. A translucent cement is then placed to fill in the pores and to help your veneers to become one with the rest of your teeth. Just like that, your new smile is complete!

With so many aesthetic benefits, veneers are an excellent way to perfect your pearly whites. Reach out to your dentist to see if they’re the right choice for you and your smile!
